Cargo distribution centre Terna S.p.A.

Rome, Via della Marcigliana , 2007 - 2012

Functional and plant restructuring of the offices, control room, canteen and "cart-bridge" building to be used as "Campus Terna" to accommodate the new headquarters of the company training. The project of the "bridge-cart" addresses the theme of the recovery of an industrial building, for the meanings that are attributed to it (cultural, economic, architectural) addresses a problem not new and widely discussed in Italy and throughout Europe. With the delicate task of verifying the intended use of buildings with peculiar typological characteristics and the integration of technologies for buildings characterized by consistency hardness and technological simplicity.

The central core represents the authenticity that must be handed down in the processes of evolution, preserving the nature of the building also in its transformation. The "bridge-cart" building is internally a single free volume equipped with a lifting and moving system that, in past years, served for the maintenance of large electricity transformers, for this reason it was called "lift room". The recovery project foresees that the volume will instead be divided into three main floors, given the considerable height available (h 18.50), on which will be distributed the different activities of the Campus Terna; these are mainly classrooms for teaching, meeting rooms, storage rooms and a double-height video conference room.
