New Library of the Senate of the Republic in the Palazzo della Minerva

Rome, 1991 - 2002

The project involves the restoration and enhancement of the building housing the new library of the Senate located in Piazza della Minerva in Rome. The four facades of the building were incorporated and standardized in a single project by the architect Busiri Vici in 1865, although they hide different buildings built in different eras, the intervention involves a restoration to be performed with traditional techniques with the removal of plaster layers and the consolidation of the plasters by injections in order to minimize the replacements. For the painting the importance of the building has been taken into account in the parts of Via della Minerva and Piazza della Minerva in relation to the Pantheon and the S.M. Sopra Minerva church. The internal interventions were carried out with the utmost respect for the material of the building in the most reversible way possible following the principles of restoration. The ultimate goal was to respect the historical schedule of the artifact in its potential unit for transmission to the future.
